How to play Richard Burns Rally on Steam Deck (Steam OS, Vanilla Physics)

Richard Burns Rally play on Steam Deck (SteamOS, Vanilla physics)

*This guide is only for VANILLA PHYSICS version.

1. Download my RBRRTP Pack and unzip.

(on SteamDeck Desktop mode with Fire Fox browser)

https://lezarbr.blogspot.com/2021/03/richad-burns-rally-rtp-pack-vanilla.html

2.In SteamDeck desktop mode, run Steam.

3.Add RichardBurnsRally_SSE.exe and JSGME.exe (mod installer) via 'Add Game' located at the bottom left of Steam.

4.Set compatibility of RichardBurnsRally_SSE.exe to <Proton 9.0-3>

JSGME.exe to <Proton Experimental>

 *Please note that the modinstaller only runs in desktop mode.*

5.Run JSGME and make sure to disable Reshade

Or, you can delete d3d9.dll in the RBR folder.

*Reshade does not work on SteamOS and cause the game crash.

6.(Optional) Opens RBRfolder/Misc/LM_Driver.ini

Change the line

(recommended 30~50)

[Settings]

Max Steeringwheel degrees = 45

7.*IMPORTANT*

Opens RichardBurnsRally.ini and change the resolutions.

XRes = 1280

YRes = 800

8.Unfortunately, RBRCIT (Car installer) is not working on SteamOS.

So if you want to change the carlist,

Install the desired car using RBRCIT on your Windows.

Then copy the following 4 files to your RBR folder in Steamdeck (use a USB stick):

RBRfolder/Audio/Cars/Cars.ini

RBRfolder/Cars/Cars.ini

RBRfolder/<Physics> folder

RBRfolder/physics.rbz

9.Also, BTB track plugin is not working.

You can play only 'original format' track include mod stage.

This is mean you can play every stages on RBRcz mappack on Steamdeck.

10.I shared my controller settings to Steam Layout option.

+ Button -> Keyboard Arrow key

L4 -> ESC

R4 -> ENTER

L5 -> Left mouse

R5 -> Right mouse

Triange -> S Key (for tuning option on RBRTM plugin)

R3 -> Tilt Control on/off (*very useful on Tarmac stages)

11.Options - Controls - Controller Setup

Here is my settings.

*2 analog sticks are cannot separated two axis. So, you should bind the L2/R2 to <Accelerate and Brake>.

12.Options - Controls - Filter Settings.

This is important settings for better control experience with Steamdeck analog stick.

Steering - Axis

                                                    Throttle - Axis

Footbrake - Axis

*CAR TUNING GUIDE*

This game is difficult to drive because of the overpowered vehicles and lack of gravity. However, I cannot agree with the opinion that it is 'impossible to drive'.

The fundamental problem is that the basic tuning values of the vehicles are a mess. (Especially the Gravel Tuning)

This means that if you can properly modify the tuning values for each vehicle, you can drive enjoyable.

These settings are generally the same for any 4WD vehicles.

It is even okay to apply the exact same tuning values, as RBR's vanilla physics do not fully embody the characteristics of the vehicle.

Differential Torque

To reduce oversteer, lower the rear value by 100 or more.

Dampers
In particular, Gravel defaults are a mess.

In the gravel,
Lowering bump to 2.5~3.5
Lowering fast bump to 4~6
Lowering threshold to 0.3

In general for Springs, it is better if the front have slightly higher values than the rear.

The Tarmac is fine even if you just lower the threshold.

Default values

Modified values

Springs
Also, default is not good.
Length - +20~30 on gravel
Stiffness - -15~20 on gravel

Default values

Modified values

Rollbar (for Gravel)

Default value is too much stiffness.
Lower as much as possible.

Geometry

Generally, camber is between -2 and -1.5, and toe is around -0.2.

Lowering your tire pressure will greatly improved tire grip.

Brake bias is very important (especially for analogs of steam decks)
Reduce rear brakes and increase front brakes so that the front/rear ratio is around 75:25.

Gear ratio is always <Short>
